One of the most common myths for young lawyers is that, someone will teach you everything you need to know about the practice of law, and as long as you keep your head down and “do what you’re supposed to do” , success will come Law tutor. Unfortunately, relying on this myth can have devastating effects on your career, from disappointment due to false expectations on the part of your colleagues to hating the practice of law.
However, throughout my experience I have learned and put into practice some tips to take charge of our career from the beginning. We will give you 5 tips to be a successful lawyer.
TIP #1 INVEST YOUR TIME IN PARTICIPATING IN ACTIVITIES OF YOUR CAREER
The majority of students are satisfied with what they learn in classes and think that the teacher has the final say, a successful lawyer is one who “questions everything and contributes new ideas.” So you have to be open to receiving comments, in this race we learn from different points of view to form our own criteria.
TIP#2 FIND A MENTOR
Throughout our journey in our career you will meet colleagues, teachers, researchers with whom you share similar ideas or that lawyer whom you admire for the way in which he or she develops, this person can be a good example to follow. Fortunately, thanks to social networks, we have access to belonging to legal communities, groups of legal studies in which you can have a good opportunity to meet extraordinary professionals.
TIP #3 BELONG TO A BAR ASSOCIATION
To provide greater clarity in the aforementioned tips, Bar Associations are an excellent way in which you can develop yourself in events, courses, make friends in a free space to express ideas, opinions and valuable contributions to your training.
Remember that being a lawyer is constant training, you learn from good and bad experiences, just have confidence in your abilities and the success of your career, be careful! It doesn’t mean you do everything on your own.
TIP #4 CONTINUE GROWING PROFESSIONALLY
The importance of continuing to grow as a professional is very important for your future as a lawyer, never stop reading, learning and surrounding yourself with other professionals who can boost your career. Remember that this is of utmost importance as it will allow you to fuel your growth.
TIP #5 CONCENTRATION
You may encounter very tense situations, in which you may lack arguments in the development of a trial; it is important and essential to have the ability to concentrate in order to guarantee your rationality and have effective criteria.
TIP #6 EASE OF WORDS
You must have great skill to communicate verbally and even visually. And be prepared for any counterargument you must defend. Always remember to be very well prepared and informed before starting.
